Pack a couple of pairs of hiking socks to avoid blisters, along with the boots. Medium or heavy weight boots, depending on the location you could choose lightweight. Right and comfortable boots are essential to make your hiking trip a success. If you are going on a hike, the first and foremost priority must be given to your footwear.

Leave space for some foodstuffs and water, however. Carry your toiletries and other essential articles. An extra pair of hiking socks, body lotions, a rainwear (during rainy season), else go for cotton underwear), the backpack should contain the necessary articles such as undergarments (take synthetic ones if you are planning to hike and camp during winter. Choose a good backpack depending on the number of days you plan to hike and camp.

Compass and a signal mirror are a must. Duct tape and light ropes, carry bottle openers. Kettle and a frying pan and couple of unbreakable mugs, plate, spoons, do not forget to include a knife, if you are planning to cook using campfire.

The fresh air and the cool breeze could increase your appetite. Carrying extra supply of food is a good idea because you tend to feel hungry while hiking long distance. Check out the date of expiry, when shopping for food. Take tinned foods that will last long and is light on stomach. Avoid meat as they are bound to get spoiled. Carry cereals and milk powder for breakfast. Plan out each meal. You need to have an idea about the foodstuffs that have to be taken along, whether you are going hiking or camping.

Carry your sunglasses, if you feel necessary. The mountain air and sun could cause blisters. Never forget to apply sun protection creams on your face and limbs. Wear a large brimmed hat to protect you from the sun, when you go trekking during daytime. Do not forget to pack a lightweight blanket and sweaters for the night, if you are camping in the mountains.
